Four parts of Medicareand what they cover
Medicare Part A
This is known as hospital insurance and part of the original medicare. Part A covers hospital visits, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.
Medicare Part B
Part B is known as medical insurance and covers most necessary doctors’ services, hospital outpatient care, medical equipment, lab tests, x-rays, mental health care, and preventive care.
Medicare Part C
Part C allows private health insurance companies to provide the same benefits as original Medicare.
Medicare Part D
Also known as prescription drug coverage, this part is only provided through private insurance companies. Part D helps cover the cost of prescription drugs.

What does medicare cover?
Medicare Part A is oftentimes referred to as “original Medicare” and covers hospital services and hospital visits (inpatient). In addition, skilled nursing and medical devices such as wheelchairs or walkers are covered under this plan as well.
Other plans cover different areas, and it is best to consult with an insurance specialist on items that are covered under each part.
What services are not covered?
While many health items are covered under the different parts, other services such as dental care, eye exams, audiology, or cosmetic surgeries are not covered under certain parts.

Who else can be covered under 65?
While the majority of Americans on Medicare programs are over the age of 65, it is also available to individuals with certain disabilities who are under the age threshold.
Individuals with Ends Stage Renal Disease or Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) can apply for Medicare programs as well. They must apply and meet certain criteria to receive eligibility.
